Why I started blogging

Why I started blogging

Writing has always been a journey for me. I’ve grown to love it over time, especially during my studies. When I was working on my master’s at the University of Cape Town, I had the privilege of learning from some incredibly smart and supportive people in my faculty and at the writing center. Their constructive feedback helped me keep improving, which eventually led to earning a distinction for my thesis. In my work now, I’ve learned to focus more on the end-user and audience, thanks to the excellent writers on my team. As a colleague once wisely said, you only achieve the desired outcome when your audience can connect with your message in their own language.

However, I often struggle to find time to write. Like many of you, I have thoughts, shaped by my Afro-Indian perspective, but they often remain in my mind because I haven’t created the space to write them down.

So why start this blog? Because:

  • This blog is my attempt to simplify my complex relationship with writing. It’s a space where I can share incomplete thoughts and push the perfectionist in me to let go. It’s a bit of a conundrum because, as an agile practitioner, I encourage people to share incomplete work to foster debate, yet I struggle to follow my own advice.
  • Blogging is underrated, but I believe it’s an important way to reflect on my work and career as I move forward.

My goal is to write and share these incomplete thoughts every two weeks.

I’m Aliasgher

Join me on a journey where I share my reflections on creating better public spaces for people. I will also share learnings as a leader who strives to be better every day. This blog is all about incomplete thoughts, experimentation, and imperfection.
